Children Changing the World
Children Changing the World
Statistics reveal that 80% of all amputees live in developing countries. Many working-class citizens in these countries are fortunate to earn five dollars a day, with modern prosthetic legs costing sixty thousand dollars making them unattainable for most amputees around the world.
Mr. Copes’ high school Manufacturing class has been tasked to make a difference by developing an inexpensive prosthesis that will change the lives of many amputees throughout Latin America. Students have formed a small business called, “Life Changer Manufacturing,” where they use modern additive manufacturing techniques to 3/D print the prosthetic legs in the classroom. Once the legs have been printed and fabricated the students travel to Latin America where they change the lives of the very needy amputees providing them with a life of fulfilled normalcy.
High School students from the 15 SKY partner schools has traveled with Dr. Albert Allen to Cost Rica El Salvador, Guatemala,, Honduras , Nicaraugua, and Peru where they fit over two hundred amputees. These students are Changing the lives of others around the world as their own lives are being changed as they learn to serve and help others.
